A flag is a piece of cloth that is attached to a stick. Its color and design are intended to serve as a symbol for a particular cause or a particular community of people. The word „flag" goes back to the Gothic „fana", Old High German „fano", which means something like „cloth". The flag is usually carried or erected.

The coat of arms of the federal capital of Vienna shows a white cross in a pointed red shield and the first evidence of this can be found in the 13th century.

The right flagpole should be chosen so that flags and banners can fly permanently in the wind. But not all flagpoles are the same.
