Flag mother, godmother or donor ribbons are a special type of flag ribbon. They show a special connection to a club, which is expressed by the ribbon. The flag mother is usually also the patron of the club. The ribbon is presented to the club as a token of appreciation at the flag dedication ceremony, when the flag mother hangs the ribbon directly on the flag (ribbon wreath or flag ring). The name of the donor and a dedication are traditionally attached to the ribbon. The older ribbon shape with a bow is still very popular for this flag ribbon. This makes the ribbon stand out from the other ribbons on the club flag.
