A standard is a special form of flag that dates back to ancient times. Originally, the standard was used for field signs, which also signaled assembly points for the troops. In the course of history, the standard adapted to the respective means of transportation (on foot, on horseback, on a wagon), especially in terms of size and weight.
The difference to a conventional flag is its size and the visibility of the symbols. There are different motifs on both sides, which are permanently legible thanks to the special attachment to the flagpole. The standard is additionally attached to a crossbar (bracket), which is also often artistically decorated. It is somewhat smaller and lighter, which makes it easier to carry.
To this day, the standard serves as an identification symbol for official emblems (e.g. state limousines) or is a popular form of club flag. Equestrian clubs prefer this form as it allows them to present their club flag on horseback. But standards are also popular alternatives or additions to club flags for other clubs, such as fire departments, marksmen, music clubs, carnival guilds or carnival clubs.

We offer banners for all traditional and carnival clubs. You can customize the banner to suit your club’s needs (manufacturing method, design, various flagpoles and pole extensions). If you prefer banners without pole extensions, we have the right solution for you as well. Mounted on a brass frame, your symbols and mottos remain visible on both sides at all times.
Variations:
- Banner edging with twisted gold bouillon fringe, a gold cord, a scalloped edge, or a flame-shaped border.
- Mounted using an openwork pole hem (loops) attached to the standard pole or stretched over a metal frame.
- Digital printing or print-and-embroidery combinations for eye-catching and cost-effective designs.
